Yeah, it is too high. In the short term, a brisk walk will help. But you need to change what you had for breakfast. What did you eat?

frosted flakes had them yesterday too and got a reading of 6.6mmol/l but that was at 1.35pm and i was busy yesterday morning

i only get the monitor yesterday morning you see xxx

Well, a small bowlful with semi-skimmed milk is around 28g of carbs. But I have found, for me, that it is not only the carb amount which effects me.

For example:

Breakfast of a mug of coffee made with semi-skimmed milk and 1 sugar, plus a slice of homemade wholemeal bread, butter and marmite is around 28g of carbs, but my bs levels only go up to 7.2-ish

But if I have white bread for toast, or swop the toast for rice krispies (not the sugared ones) I get bs readings in double figures, even though the carbs are about the same.

Something for you to think about, just in case the same type of thing happens for you?

So earlier on yesterday, at the 2 hours mark, you probably also had high readings. Think the frosted flakes need to go, don't you?
You may be someone who can't handle cereal at all in the morning, or you need to have smaller bowls, or change the cereal (frosted=sugar)
Experiment and test, experiment and test.

to be honest i usually have toast i swopped white bread for brown bread when i first got diagnosed but i had a craving for frosted flakes so ordered them with my shopping for a change too so guess its back to toast for me then or corkflakes and little to no suger!!

white bread and brown bread are the same. In brown bread the white flour has been coloured to make it brown.

Wholemeal bread is much better. So is Burgen bread if you can get it and afford it.

HI Tolsn, you may find that brown bread isn't any better. Lots of us use Bergan, soya and linseed bread. Most of the supermarkets or Iceland sell it. Its low GI as well as low carb so we digest it slowly.

My breakfast is usually 30g Lizi's Granola, half a total greek yoghurt, some raspberries and a couple of spoonfulls of seeds, sunflower, pumpkin and linseed. This has no effect on my levels and i think it's rather yummy. I tend to always want cereal for breakfast in the week. This is the only one I can tolerate apart from porridge and I know alot on here can't tolerate that. It's a case of trying and testing, sometimes it means something goes onto the no list other times a cut in portion size is all that's needed.

Agree with above, but wholemeal bread doesn't help much, it's wholeGRAIN bread that is a bit better, but Burgn soya and linseed (not the buckwat and poppy) seems about the best.
Cornflakes not great either I'm afraid!
I have mini shredded wheat, same carbs but almost zero sugar content (look on the side of the cornflakes box at the sugar content!) I'm lucky in that they seem fine for me, but again, eat and test, eat and test.....................

That shows how different we all are. Shredded wheat makes me spike, but wholemeal bread doesnt.

So keep trying different combinations and foods, tolsn, as and when you can afford them, and see what your meter tells you about your body. We are all different.

i ment wholegrain lol!its taking some getting used to as i dont really like any other bread than white :?
oh i dont mind Shredded wheat s might get some 2moz when i go into town and give them a go xxx exlanes why my grandad used to eat them lol!
well lie you all say its gonna be trial and error see wants ok and whats not! so guess the frosted flakes are a no for me then!! (or smaller bowl lol)

It really is trial and error, the old mantra of eat to your meter is the only way to know what you can and can't tolerate. I have Burgen bread, but find I really don't tolerate is well. I have it in the freezer and pull out a slice when required. I think that loaf has been there about three weeks and is still only half gone, as I have to be very, very careful when I eat it, so really don't much now. You'll get there, it's really not easy at first, but does become so, I promise

I do the same Defren. Out of interest, I find that if I just leave it to defrost, even if wrapped in clingfilm, it comes up a bit dry. But if I clingfilm it and put it in the microwave on defrost for about 6 seconds a side it comes out nice and moist. How do you eat yours? Sounds like an advert for Cadburys cream eggs!

lol you all do make me smile xxx

i hope it gets easyer its all mind boggoling to me at the moment it really is :?

11 is higher than what they recommend , but there's alot off people who would be happy with that , as it took me a long time to figure out what I can eat for breakfast as my readings where all over the place for the first year I was as hi as 33 sum mornings after breakfast!!! Now I know all I can have is 2 slices of whole meal pitta bread a glassd of water and half glass of milk and my readings are now a regular 8 in the morning an I'm happy with that ! Good luck
