I try to keep my food intake down, but think I could be eating more than I should.

Yesterday two boiled eggs night time with mayonnaise and two Ryvitas mayonnaise if not fat free. I am afraid I like taste and the moistness of mayonnaise so I have two good desert spoons.
I am asked Is. it because of that my reading was 7.4 this morning instead lower.

My weight is coming off slowly..

When you say night time, do you mean evening meal or something before bed?

Ryvitas are too high carb for me to tolerate.

Evening meal. So I will stop using Ryvitas.

Your higher fasting reading may have been due to Dawn Phenomena rather than the crispbread (although the crispbread is made from grains, which are high carb).

Dawn Phenomena or Liver Dump happens when we havn't eaten for a few hours such as when we sleep overnight. The liver dumps glucose to give us the energy to start our day.

One of the things many people do not realise is that high intake of proteins will elevate blood sugars too, especially when eaten in large quantities and especially if eaten together with carbs. Proteins do not spike as much as carbs but elevate BS for much longer, mean BG might actually be the same/similar to some of the carbs. Proteins act in a similar way to pizza and pasta. Eating a lot of protein in the evening may have an effect on FBG. Eggs are protein... I get elevated FBG if I overeat proteins in the evening. It's about finding the right balance.

Oh that’s not fare although Zi am ditching Ryvitas but sometimes need something other than bread but what I don’t know.

You could try low carb bread or one of the DietDoctor cracker recipes.

Sometimes I get a carrot and slice it thinly lengthwise, to create something I can use instead of a cracker, to put toppings on. I know carrots are carby but not as much as crackers.

I don't know what your previous numbers were or your current target but if your weight is coming off that probably means your BGs are coming down too, which is great.

My current target is to get my fasting BG below 7.0 and then reassess if I can reasonably get it under 6.5 or 6.0, which is of course better than 7.

So, 7.4 might not be too bad in the scheme of things, and as someone said above there is also the dawn phenomenon to consider.

Always a balancing act between achieving BG targets and enjoying eating things we like that are not too inconvenient to plan and prepare, I think. Unless we have lots of energy and time, which I don't, so my mindset is kind of focused on this balancing act. It's probably different for other people.

Overall I think you are doing really well! Keep up the good work.
