Hi there,

I am very new to this forum but if anyone can help I would be so thankful.I have been type 1 now for 2 years and I am now 41 years old.For most of the 2 years my wake up BG has been no problem btw 4-5.
But just recently the readings are really high & I dont know why.
I am using Novarapid & Insultard. For the past 2 years just before bed I check my BG which is ok & inject btw 5-10 units of rapid & 24 of Insultard. When I wake up all is good, but that has changed recently without changing any pattren in my life.Im finding im having to inject btw 15-20 of Rapid & 24 Insultard to get it right for the morning. However this has got it right on some occasions & then other times I nearly go into a coma in my sleep & this has happened 5 times.
The other night I injected just 7 Rapid & I was fine But the last 2 nights I have injected 8 or 10 rapid & woken up btw 9-11.Can someone please help me because I really dont know what to do.
Thank you for reading.

Kevin

Kevin, why is it you are injecting novorapid before bed? :? More than likely you are going hypo in your sleep every night hence why your morning readings are elevated.

Hi Kevin,

Like Nigel asked..why the novorapid before bed? That is for food, or very occasional as a correction bolus if you are high. I would think that you are coming out of the "honeymoon" period, and need to get your insulin regime completely overhauled...which is probably best done with the help of your Dr. If you are routinely injecting novorapid before bed...your long term insulin is not working for you..it could be the amount or the type that needs to be changed.

I could guess at something that might help...but a guessis no good...so try and see if the professionals can help?

^ what they said. If I inject 20 units NovoRapid without eating I wouldn't be surprised to be in a coma! Especially if I was also injecting long lasting insulin at the same time.
