Hello. When i go for a run, i am finding that my sugar levels rise dramatically afterwards? Last time my sugar level was 5.2 before breakfast (which was my normal bowl of cornflakes) and i took 4 units Novorapid (without exercise i would take 6) I ran 10 miles, and on return, my sugar level was 25.5! Two hours later it was still the same, so i causiously took another 6 units, but it didn't lower. Before lunch it was still pretty much the same, so i took more Novorapid than usual, and it finally levelled by the end of the day. I have a sweet tooth, and although my sugar levels are well controlled with insulin and exercise, i DO like my Haribos etc. Is that the reason my sugars are so high after exercise? When i run, do they splurge out in an emergency?!

I haven't been on this site for a long time, but managed to find my own answer on www.runsweet.com A GREAT site for sports people of all abilities with diabetes. If you exercise aerobically, your sugar level will drop. If you exercise anaerobically, then your sugar level will rise. Anaerobically means high heart rate sports like squash, sprinting etc. It all makes sense now.
