Hi everyone have been a bit off today with bad headache and a little unbalanced,, I have type 1 diabetes but I also have MS and a spinal injury from playing rugby. This morning I did my blood and took my Novomix 30 insulin as normal sugar was 6·4 so no problems but because I felt bad I went back to bed and tried sleeping it off. I didn't eat at lunchtime as I would have been sick so didn't take my insulin around 3 I had a coffee and 3 rich tea biscuits. Have just done my blood sugar and panic has set in my sugar levels had gone up to 16.8 phoned Novocare number but they were not helpful have just taken my normal 8 units of Insulin with tea. Has anyone else had a big spike in sugar?

Its quite normal for bg levels to go high when unwell, if your bg levels don't come down contact your diabetes team or ring the NHS Helpline on 111 if out of hours.

Any inflammation or infection can impact on your blood sugar levels .
Best to see your GP if your levels keep being spiked .

However if your blood sugars take off and go really skywards .
Try giving NHS HELPLINE a call on 111 .
Like @noblehead suggests .

Let us know how things go for you .
