High sugars and ketones

I’ve been battling with high sugars and ketones for a week now. So much so I feel like I’ve lost a lot of weight I’ve had diabetes for 14 years (14 years to the DAY actually!!) so I’m not a novice with dealing with sickness and high sugars etc but I’m coming to the end of my tether and I don’t know what to do. I’m not poorly enough with it to need admitting, I haven’t been sick. But I’m correcting with an insulin pen instead of pump, eating low carb, giving the correct insulin dose for any carbs I do eat. I managed to get them down to low teens before bed last night but I’ve woken up to them in high 20s this morning and I feel horrendous. I’m in the process of changing diabetes centres so when I rang my diabetic nurse for advice she said she can’t help me as I’m no longer under their care, rang my new centre and the nurses have no record of me because I haven’t seen the consultant yet, my appointment isn’t until the 11th of April!!! I’ve set a temporary basal rate at +20% overnight. I just don’t know what else to do. Any help appreciated please

I’d seriously consider going to A&E to get yourself stabilised, especially as you’re in that “awkward in between stage” - I’ve done that in the past and they’ve been wonderful. A few hours on a sliding scale will sort you out x

Have to agree with @Mel dCP , get yourself to A&E. They will sort you out pretty quickly AND you will also get to see your new diabetic consultant earlier. Not a good response from your old team mind, I would also be telling the staff at A&E about the response of your old team

I ended up going to a&e, I still have an ear infection that I was in hospital for in December so that’s obviously what’s caused it. Was on a drip all day and been sent home with antibiotics. Completely exhausted now. So frustrating that this happens even when you’re doing everything right. . Thanks for your response x

I’m so glad you got yourself sorted, just be kind to yourself for a few days and hopefully you’ll make a speedy recovery xxx

Glad you have got it sorted. At least you know why you was running high.
Oh the joys of diabetes :)
