Can anyone help me understand why my blood sugar is always higher in the morning than when I go to bed. This can be despite not having eaten for two hours before going to bed? Many thanks

Before we wake up, as morning approaches, our body releases some glucose into our blood to get us rerady for the day. This is known as the "Dawn effect" A non doabetic quickly releases insulin to take the glucose to the muscles and restore blood sugar levels to normal, but we can't respond so quickly. We therefore end up with raised BGs
