I was looking through my history on patient access today and on the last page of tests under the banner Plasma Glucose Level it showed in 2008 6.4 marked abnormal and 2011 6.3 abnormal. Nothing more recent. My first Hba1C was Nov 2017 after a bleed behind my eye picked up by Specsavers. What I want to know is does this mean I have been prediabetic since 2008 because if I was noone at the surgery brought it up. Thanks in advance for any info.

Yes, although more accurately impaired fasting glucose which was my diagnosis in 2011. I was then sent for a oral glucose tolerance test.

I dont remember why I had these blood tests but if the plasma glucose levels were abnormal surely that should have been acted on. Theres nothing I can do about it now but it would be useful to know.

To be clear, I'm not making a judgement on whether or not you should have been told, but what action would you have expected to have been taken?

I would have thought I could have been told about the abnormality and the high risk of becoming diabetic. Stupidly maybe I would think that abnormal results mean just that. I dont know because my current siuation is made complicated by a distal pancretectomy in 2012 and low insulin. I must have had lots of blood tests then but dont know if the levels showed up normal or not.

It certainly was useful for me to be told bluntly I was borderline for diabetes, I found this forum that very night and started to reduce carbs over the next few weeks.
