Hives help

Hi i take metformin and avostatin
and just last months glicazade
My last gp test was 56 so not hugely high.
I have for last three years had hives all over and if its to warm or I do physical work ect.
It's horrid itchy and starting to rule my life I can not go swiming ect just for one.
Gp/ nurse keeps telling me it's dust mite allergy ect but I'm 57 I've never had it till three years ago .
My question is this do any of the meds cause long term hives at all.gp insists not and I always feel like I'm wasting there time.
I work in a school as a carer and one to one at times and the hives don't help when small children see them.
They are really getting me down I have two or three bouts a day.
I want to go back to gp but armed with information if that makes sense .
I'm not asking for medical options just if others effected same .

Hi no nothing at all I have dropped 3 Stone in total in last four years altogether and kept it of.
Hives appeared and stayed dr just said take antihistamines.
 
I don’t get hives unless you wash my clothes in Persil! But developed asthma in my early 50’s , so certainly possible to develop reactions to things later in life.

Another sufferer of uncomfortable hives, rashes, allergic type reactions to all sorts of things. I do have a regime for managing, but it was an individually planned course of action determined by a dermatologist, and immunology / allergy consultant.
I think as this is impacting your life so much, you would be best advised to assertively tell your doctor and nurse that you have followed their advice, and it hasn’t worked. Also that you would like to be referred to a specialist for assessment.
My solution came via a referral to allergy consultant who tested for usual allergens, with the pin pricks along my arm. Then dermatology for skin biopsy. Now managed by immunology.
You should not have to carry on with such uncomfortable untreated symptoms.

Quite frankly, there is nothing foolish about knowing how your health conditions affect your life. We have to be our own experts. You arecentitled to proper health care and a second opinion. Though NHS backlogs could mean you have a long wait. Do not be fobbed off or treated as if this is a trivial matter.
 
I had a similar experience to you, until I finally managed to get an appointment with a gp who had more training in dermatology issues. Very quickly got a diagnosis then, so I'd definitely push to get to see a specialist.

Separate to that I also get bad hives with different brands of tablets, so that may be an avenue you can keep detailed notes on yourself whilst waiting. It's the fillers they use that cause the problems, for me at any rate, so don't be fobbed off by gp or pharmacy trying to say it's the same tablet!!

Sorry to hear about your situation @mrs gimli. This is all too often the case with gp today; the dismissive 'you have to live with it' like they're too lazy to do anything further. It's obvious that it's a reaction to something. Insist you want a second opinion and see another doctor. Hope you find a solution.
