Home Made Juice

I live in Switzerland (Scot abroad) and from the very start (diagnosed November 2017) was given a Bayer Contour Next meter, lancets and sensors - all of which are paid for by my sickness insurance. I have to test 4 x daily so use a lot. We complain here about the cost of our coverage but think I prefer that to what a lot of you are experiencing. Those sensors are expensive!!!

I am actually allergic to Stevia, so looking for an alternative. The monk fruit sounds good.

There are pros and cons to every sweetener.

I find erythritol and xylitol the only ones I can tolerate, and I won't use xylitol because it is so toxic to dogs - so erythritol it is. I can get away with sucralose in tiny quantities, and loathe the taste of stevia. The more chemical ones just give me insomnia and the jitters.

Plus, of course, the amount used is highly relevant. The more used, the more likely there will be problems. But then that applies to everything.
 
So true, I'm going to see if I can find the monk fruit.
 
Thank you. I have been on metformin for less than a week. Starter dose so I am not stupid enough to think i will have sorted out my lifestyle and health issues straight away. My experiment with brown rice is virtually my only foray into eating carbs in the past week.

Monk juice is available in all good liquor stores under the name of Benedictine, also a version of hop juice made by Trappists.
