Type 2 Home testing

Can anybody tell me please. Do you have trouble getting lancets & test strips from your GP?

I am constantly being told I dont need to test being on tablets. How can I know if I am controlling my condition if I am unable to test my BG?

My diabetes is not under control currently & I am desperate to know what mt readings are but I am worried about asking for these things from my GP as I am always being told I dont need to test.

Advice please
 
Advice ? Yes, test, test test.

You are not alone in getting this advice from a GP, and I think it's basically because they do not want to dish out meters to T2's.

I was sure I wasnt alone & my father (aslo Diabetic, but on Insulin) is totally outraged at the fact Im told not to test, especially as Im not controlled at the moment.

Wish I could afford to by my own strips & lancets but I just cant!
 
The NHS is extremely biased against issuing meters and prescription lancets/strips to type 2 diabetics.

They must be under the impression that every T2D is fat, has a terrible diet, smokes and encouraged the disease themselves - and for that they don't deserve the full benefits of the health service.

We all know this is not the case for many. I challenge any NHS high flyer to contradict what I've said in this post...

I think it's a disgrace that T1D and T2D don't get the same options.

It's possible to get the meter as a freebie. Cost of strips would obviously depend on how often you test but needn't be too prohibitive. @Bluetit1802 can offer some more guidance on cost.

Codefree meter is the cheapest. And is apparently not bad.

Strips come in at circa £6.99 for x50. Possibly a discount for buying in bulk.

By far the cheapest strips by a country mile.

Thank you once again.
I have a meter but think it needs an upgrade as I have has it for several years now.
its just every time I ask for strips the doc is reluctant to give them to me.
 
What medication are you on?

If you are on Gliclazide (or similar) and drive, you could ask for them stating that you do need to test before driving.

Not on that one. Been talked about a couple of times but they have always decided against it for some reason.
Im on Glucophage & Dapafligozin (I think thats how you spell it)

I have just placed an order for the codefree machine, strips & lancets.
Looking forward to recieving it all & starting to help control my condition.
I am very grateful for your help with this X
