Hey! I was diagnosed with diabetes type 1 pretty early, so ive "always" produced a lot of insulin myself - needed only 1-3 units for a meal. But now my own production of insulin is getting really staggered, and i cant control my blood sugar. I have had both high and low levels these weeks, and im not used to it. Can my own production change from day to day? or is it just something affecting my blood suger that I just dont see?

Have anyone been through this and know how to deal with it?

How long have you been diabetic?

If you are in a honeymoon period then yes it can vary greatly from day to day I'm afraid!

Ok, when you said "early" I wasn't sure if you meant as a child or not!

I've been diagnosed 8 months now. Predominately stable BG but very insulin sensitive, then the odd funny day. I have read about many people with bad experiences during the honeymoon with varying insulin needs. Hang in there!

My son was diagnosed 6 months ago, still in his honeymoon period..... His blood sugar levels rise up and down daily , one minute he is high then drops very low...it makes him feel really unwell. He really struggles at times..... I wish I could help him more , but until this honey moon period stops , I feel like I can't do a lot . My son is 15, going on 40 lol. Any suggestions !

Hi! For me its been like that for the last months too. I find that exercise helps. Eating healthy and often, every 3-4 hour. And of course checking my BS often. But you cant really do anything about the fact that pancreas are living its own life - and sometimes produce a lot of insulin and other times dont produce anything. My doc told me to just be patient, but that it will make u tired and unwell sometimes. Also the honeymoon period is different from person to person, and everyone have to learn to cope with ones diabetes. I dont think its much you can do, other then wait for it to be over. The good thing though, is that it will be over one day - and its never coming back!

Hi there I just wondered have your levels settled since your last post? My daughter is similar however after six weeks from being diagnosed she takes no insulin . She has mostly 5.0 sometimes 4 and a random 12 in a day but her body brings is back to 5 without insulin. I am confused by it and wonder if something else could be to blame.

Really interesting thread. I've started my honeymoon this week, after 5 relatively stable weeks since diagnosis, I'm all over the shop now..

Halved my basal and bolus dose today, but had a minor hypo tonight, which took a huge amount of sugar to shift....

Fun and games. This diabetes is like a disobedient child :)
