I have recently had an HbA1c test and cholesterol test done as routine thanks to a sharp rise in Hypertension. Although my cholesterol has risen quite sharply my HbA1c has dropped from 42mmol to 39 mmol! Think that the dr will not be happy about the cholesterol rise which may well be due to the high fat and low carb diet that I follow. [Not too rigidly though]. I have no weight to lose.
No but they may make your BS rise - I went from an hba1c of 48 to 54 when I started taking them. Since coming off them my hba1c has gradually reduced to 36Thanks everyone. It certainly was a relief as a previous dr had said the numbers would definitely rise and I'd be on metformin soon. Diet apart, maybe the walking I have to do with the dog every day has helped get those numbers down. I now have to keep them down.
Bluetit: the lipid/cholesterol breakdown was : total cholesterol 6.6; HDL 2.8*; ratio 2.4; Se no HDL 3.8. Previously the total was 5.4 and the ratio was 2.4. So when I have my follow up appt in 3 weeks with the GP [for rising hypertension] I am expecting some pressure to go on a statin. She knows I don't want one but NICE seem to pressurise the GPs to put everyone onto them if their QRisk is over 10%. Mine is 16% but then I'm 73 and age plays a large part in it I think. However statins won't lower BP will they?
