Hi all.

I'd like to thank everyone on this board for their advice, opinions, and expertise. Tomorrow will be two weeks since I was diagnosed with Type 2 and I just want to say there is hope for all who are frightened, scared, confused, and whatever other emotions you are experiencing - the same of which I have experienced over the last two weeks.

Obviously, no two people are alike so everyone needs to get their own plan of action, but through advice and posts on here and the support of my family, I have been able to have what I consider - great - success in just two short weeks. .

I was prescribed 500mg of metformin to take once a day upon my diagnosis and was also fortunate enough for my Dr. to write a prescription for a BG monitor, lancets, and strips. The metformin has been messing with my belly, but I just need to make sure to take it with food. Through the metformin and a low carb diet (very little "whites" - bread, rice, etc.), I have taken my BG from the upper 200's (US measurements) to the upper 90's, low 100's in the past two weeks. I test twice a day - once in the morning (fasting) and once in the evening (2 hrs. after supper) and it is such an invaluable tool in gauging what foods trigger different responses. I have been running a lot over the past 6 months and finished a 7.7 mile run in a marathon relay this past Sunday so exercise isn't an issue for me, but of course I'm sure that has added to the success.

This forum has been a great tool for me and has given me many ideas by just trolling through the posts. I encourage everyone to do the same! I am getting more and more confident each day and just want to offer words of encouragement to all who are struggling.

Thanks a ton everyone!
Jason

Well done Jason, really sounds like you have accepted that you have type 2 and have a really positive attitude.
This forum is really very helpful, best place to find answers to your queries
Good Luck

Accept, Adapt, Adjust and keep living

The start and end bits are the most important and the hardest to master I think.

Good on ya Jason.
