I was first diagnosed with gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my first child in 1992 at the age of 27. At the time I was not given any treatment or extra care and simply told it would go away after the birth. It did and I was not diagnosed with my second child in 1994. I was never told it had a high chance of return. I was re-diagnosed 3 years ago when I began going through the menopause. It took hold very quickly and in spite of my own research and following an extremely low carb diet, I am now on basal/bolus insulin. I have asked many health care professionals if there is a link with big hormonal times of life and diabetes but have been told that not enough research has been done to suggest a link. I am convinced there is. Could anyone else support my theory? I look forward to hearing from you. I would also be very happy to join any research into this.
