Hospital referal

Hi Jaxx, you are entitled to a 2nd opinion. Ask your GP directly for a referral and if she says no then send a formal request by letter asking why your request has been refused. If still no joy then go to PALS or the other body that deals with these things now @donnellysdogs has the correct name for these people.

I have never even seen my Dr, just treated by the DN. Luckily I was a biomedical scientist so I always ask for my blood results so I can check them all. On one set of results there was a note next to a result saying "Speak to ***** about this result" so I asked her why the lab had added that comment and she said "I added it as I wasn't sure what it meant but forgot to ask so you can tell me"!!!! I am lucky that I am OK with just the DN but if you are not happy with the care you are getting you can ask for a second opinion and they have to refer you for one; may be another GP or a hospital Dr.

Did you have blood tests etc to confirm that you are a type 1 and not a 1,5?

Looks pretty obvious that you need extra support when you've put your Hba1c as 10.9%. Sure that should be a flashing neon sign to your GP that things aren't working.

Sorry Jaxx - but you will have to put your foot down here, you have patients rights to demand the appropriate care from the NHS, you should be under the hospital's care.

Type 1 diabetes can only be managed by a trained consultant at your local hospital or a Diabetic Nurse NOT a GP, GP's are by nature General Practitioners, they cannot advise on the complex nature of this condition regardless of what they say.

I would start by speak to your practice manager first, there are NICE guidelines regarding the care of Type 1 Diabetics which support this, advise them you are not happy with the way your care is being managed and making reference to your HbA1c.
