Well I'm home and well now, the Op went well and I now have vision from both eyes again. Yes it normally is done by local but having sleep apneao they do it by general then I go onto the HDU ward to be monitored two hourly in case of complications, i have to sleep (always) on a CPAP machine which is why they worry but apparantly is standard procedure.
Had my blood done on arrival from nil by mouth from 2200 the previous evening 5.8, then pre op 7.8  I came round on the HDU ward to find I had been put on a glucose drip  and blood of 8.something, I was drowsey so can't remember but do remember telling then to remove it. Apparantly I was dehydrated. Once I was checked by the Doc I was allowed food and drink but had missed lunch and no one ordered me an evening diabetic meal so no food available. I was offered a sandwich but as white bread sends me sky high declined. My nurse fetched me fruit and kept making me tea to drink till my wife arrived with some food for me and then I could eat  I had my blood monitored evry 2 hours and was in the 7.8 range all day and night which I thought was high but they where happy with. Last took this morning before breakdast at 7.8 again, before being offered toast, jam and cereal  Again refused so they came up with a kind of porridge with sugar and bread and low fat spread  I came home at 1100 and ravenously devoured my normal home made porridge and several cups of de caff tea. Just tested again at 7.9 and think it may take a couple of days to get back down to my normal 5.5 ish. Doc says I can't do exercise as I still have stiches in and he doesn't want to undo the work which I fully understand so two lazyish till Monday then back to work with Docs permission. New glasses in three months.
All in all a good experiance with good results, despite the food  I have nothing but praise for the Drs and Nusres I met, its the sytem of having to order food 24 hrs in advance thats wrong.
I'm banned from computor today too, by the Boss woman of this house but she allowed me 5 mins to put this up. 8)
