Hi there, I am having a similar issue, and definitely have experienced the effect of warmer weather on my sensitivity to insulin. However my sensitivity at the moment is so extreme that for the past 3 days, I have not needed to take much/any fast-acting insulin at all (though I continue to use my bolus insulin as usual of course). I have been exercising most days for the past 3 weeks, after losing around a stone via a calorie-controlled, sensible healthy diet (lots of veg, fish, some fruits, eggs, yogurt, wholegrains, no processed foods), as I want to improve my fitness and muscle tone. I am in the 'normal' BMI range for my height, All had been going well until this week. Even on very low amounts of fast-acting insulin (2 units) with my dinner, I have subsequently suffered continual low blood sugars all evening, and that's after eating a banana, a yogurt, AND a bowl of cereal! In my usual insulin usage, 2 units would be too little to cover my meal an maintain a within-range blood glucose level, let alone also eat fruit/yogurt/cereal on top of that! My blood sugar has also been low the next morning. It's been very frustrating as I'm keen to continue my exercise regime but I can;t if my blood sugar is always running low, plus I do not want to have to eat additional calories in any case. I have assumed the warmer weather has been the cause, though I have never needed so low an amount of fast-acting insulin. Last night I took zero low-acting, ate my dinner, blood sugar rose to 8 so I thought that would cover me for my 20 mins of exercise, but no - soon after exercising it was down to 3.2 and remained low again all evening despite eating the sorts of additions (as before) that would usually sort it out. Is anyone else having/has had a similar experience, and has warmer weather ever affected your required insulin so dramatically? Could the lower need for fast-acting insulin also be related to weight loss?
