How about an advice column

Diabetic Educater? Didn't one of those start a thread on why diabetics fail at diets and hasn't been seen since the unqualified diabetics answered
that's the one...she ran for the hills..

Do you think we should make and advice column for diabetics m. I know that's pretty much this forum but we could make it more formal or make it a whole dcuk publication
If you look at the sticky threads in the Type1 section, they will help with most things.

One good thing about this forum is the diversity lots of different view points and advice if you had just one person however well intentioned giving advice you would loose that diversity of opinion..

and we'd all be constantly arguing if it was the correct advice or not..well I would anyway...

One of the problems with DUK, for example, is that it has these booklets and advice columns in Balance etc but over time the advisers become less distant from real users and experts are called in including University researchers and other national bodies to do the job - the result shows. This forum works well so let's leave it alone

I think as soon as you get into the realms of official Advice, you get into grey areas such as legal responsibility, insurance, qualified medical advice, and so on.

I imagine that any 'Advice Column' has a strict list of things that can and cannot be said, required phrasing, etc. etc. to protect the Advisor and the organisation, and a lawyer somewhere in the background dictating things. one of the reasons why we cannot give medical advice on the forum.

It could go pear-shaped astonishingly quickly, and DCUK could get into legal trouble if things did go wrong.

A pity, but nevertheless, the way of the world.

Fair enough

By qualified I mean like a long time/high ranking member

Just because someone has been on the forum some time and posted lots doesn't mean it isn't just in the joke section.

Qualified and High ranking would probably frighten the rest of us away !
