How accurate is my new meter

Hi
I bought a freestyle freedom-lite meter from Boots today. Got it home and decided to have a play wth it as ive never used one before.. ever...
I did my first blood reading and it was 7.8.. my second.. about 4 minutes later was 8.4 how come.. ?Did i do something wrong... is it because i squashed more blood onto it..?
I decided to test my husband and his reading was 7.4 (hes not supposed to be diabetic, although i guess he could be )... so im wondering if there is something wonky with the machine, or i need more practice. :?
I will do a fasting test tomorrow morning - i have been on a practical NO carb diet for 2 weeks now...and ive lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks so i thought it would have been lower to be honest.
thanks

Thanks for the info.... im sure it must be a bit boreing and repetative to someone who 'knows' but as a newcomer its all very confusing..... you were a newb one time

Boring......Not really, it is tongue in cheek ! I was once a newbie, but I have never lost my sense of humour.......

If you contact the manufacturer, they can send you some control solutionso you can check if your meter is behaving itself.

Personally I don't think there's much point being too precise - 7.8 or 8.4, I'd just call that 8ish, considering that I get different results from different fingers! My left hand goes hypo before my right hand

Just hope that you are right handed!

yes, i can see that a sence of humour is important..in any event andi seriously do have one ..... but at mo.. my emotions are a bit all over the place..some days i think - ill try really hard to be good and do things right and eat the right things ' no carbs!! but its so boreing!! ..and then, like today .. i feel like i dont give a toss and ive eaten, bread and rice and had coco pops for breakfast.. my last reading was 9.9..... so my little paddy is having an adverse effect... but i dont care....atm.

blah!

If you need cheering up.....why not just REDUCE the carbs from what you originally ate and use portion control instead. That way you can have some of the foods you like, but always in moderation.

I couldn't face NO carbs....it would drive me nuts ! I am happy with my method, it lowers all my Bg levels and I have lost over 5 1/2 stone. I still eat very small portions of Potato, Rice, Pasta (tiny) and small slices of Bread (home made). So I don't get bored and I have plenty of variety in my diet. Fruit is always included as well.

You just have to adjust your eating habits to something that you are happy with and that you can stick with for life.......it is a lifestyle.

Hi Fab

Sorry about the humorous aside to badmedisin but in all seriousness if we didn't laugh we would spend all our time bawling our eyes out.

This diabetes path is no picnic but there are loads of folk on here always happy to help or just listen so if you need to have a rant then do. In the meantime big<<<hugs>>> coming your way!
