Smoking is bad for everyone. What research can you link to about smoking and insulin please?Smokers are 30 to 40 percent more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than nonsmokers. Smoking can also make managing the disease and regulating insulin levels more difficult because high levels of nicotine can lessen the effectiveness of insulin, I want to discuss here how bad is smoking for a Type 2 diabetic?
Looks like this is the source of the statements: https://www.fda.gov/tobacco-product...cigarette-smoking-risk-factor-type-2-diabetesSmoking is bad for everyone. What research can you link to about smoking and insulin please?

Hi @Sumitrathapa , welcome to the forum.I want to discuss here how bad is smoking for a Type 2 diabetic?
Most diabetics (all types) apparently die of cardiovascular disease of some kind. Conversely large scale studies of those who had had heart attacks found that the overwhelming majority were diabetic or prediabetic.Smokers are 30 to 40 percent more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than nonsmokers. I think that people like to blame health conditions on diabetes, hence why complications on normal levels. but it does not explain why other people who are non diabetic. correlation is not always the causation.i use Nicorett icy white gum 4mg started on 35 cut down to average of 15.5 a day (mx recommended is 15 but that wasn't enough) still have 1.5 kg of tobacco but smoke free told me to throw it but its worth nearly £800 so won't chuck it!
My weight has increased as lost will power but I went from 77kg to 93 in 7 months. Now on metfomin and take lots of herbal meds to lower cholesterol turmeric cinnamon ginger garlic fenugreek Omega 3 etc
I have the added complication of PKU Phenylketonuria o diet is a struggle having low carbs and protein but I get supplements with PHe free protein.
Am getting back into it now and hope to get beter with practice. Been diabetic for nearly 2 yrs diagnosed in sept 2020 but had above normal HbA1c for longer.
Incidentally normal blood glucose is below 39 not 42 something a Dr. won't tell you as the NHS programmes them to the highr levels to save money. In some people the complications can start as low as 35 mmol/mol. Something else they keep quiet about. There are more people with prediabetes that don't know they have it as many older people are at that level with ageing. But the NHS spends 10% on those it calls diabetic but truly prediabetes is more prevelent than they will admit. Conspiracy to save money!
