How bad was my binge??

Thank you everyone. Telling me about your own experiences, as well as giving your opinions & advice is very welcome. Clearly we ALL try very hard, one way or another, to effectively manage our blood glucose levels every day. Low carbing isn't easy for me & I have at times had to force myself to eat just to get enough calories down my neck. I've been able to carry on with LCHF because I've seen results with my BG levels. But I must admit, the thought of permanently eating this way is just agonising right now. @Robbity...you are right. I need to make this way of eating sustainable. So I will start looking for low carb alternatives of the meals I used to eat pre-diagnosis. I'm compiling a file of everyday simple low carb recipes for my Mam & Dad. I guess it's gonna be sensible to prepare one for me too. @Mongolia, thanks for the pancake recipes. I'll be giving them a go this weekend. I am losing weight through ketosis, & I want that to continue. But my diet HAS to allow for a weekly treat. So, LCHF with a sensible treat seems the way to go for me. Unlikely to binge out that way. I've got to work out my carb threshold, that still produces ketosis, and thus weight loss. Not quite sure how to do that yet. Once again, thank you very much lovely people. Much appreciated.

One day out of THREE months - cut yourself some slack girl - it happens...... I'd say we've all done it to some extent or other... we know we shouldn't but sometimes its like a pressure valve.... bet tomorrow you will be right on track... take care and don't worry its a 1 in 90 if you take it as DAYS not MONTHS .... doesn't that sound better....

You are not alone, I have done it a few times, especially with HUGE quantities of sour cream. Each to his own little temptation . Just put it down to experience and get back to normal the next day. It happens less and less as time goes by. se la vie.
And Ali, knowing how controlled with diet @Pasha normally is, saying he has also fallen off the wagon is quite some admission, believe me....

Lol. I think I love you!

Just to be clear. I didn't chastise anyone, and indeed, I prefaced my post by saying I wasn't suggesting how anyone leave their life. I then went on to comment on something I just don't get. I don't get it. Maybe I am completely alone in my way of thinking. Obviously, that's my issue

However people manage themselves is completely up to them. If X poster chooses to build their diet solely on roast potatoes and macaroni cheese, with pizza chasers, and suet pudding with steaming syrup to finish, it isn't going to impact me, or my life. I might Not understand them. I might even feel for them, as I do for many who arrive here frightened and bewildered, but I wouldn't take it as a signal I must immediately change my way of living.

Ive just found it simpler and easier on both my body and my psyche not to reignite any carb cravings or angst I might have experienced when I began reducing my carb consumption. That's just my way.

Straight from the soul FG, a great post, thumbs up

The prefix is the thing though "I'm not judging....but!" is a favourite. I'm guilly of it "I'm not anti low carb BUT...." I'm clearly going to follow up either something suggesting I may be!

Your point about psyche is so so important! Being comfortable with something and believing in it is perfect if the results go with it too

My results are in my signature. For me? So far, so good.

I'm not here to argue with anyone.

Some great and positive posts Alisonjane

Hi AndBreathe

You're clearly very dedicated to your LCHF way of eating, & have made it fit into your life well. You say you're a practical person & "tackle things head on." That shows determination, self discipline & grit...great personality traits. And I envy you a bit for that. You have strong opinions, and that's fine. Strong opinions create strong debate. Which is what's happened with this post. And it's been very interesting. How we cope with the lifestyle of our diabetes is completely subjective. What works for one won't work for another. But what I HAVE learnt is that on this wonderful forum, there are SO many kind, knowledgeable, supportive people who happily and generously give there advice to people struggling with this disease. And you're one of those kind people...even if I don't necessarily agree with your stance. You have no malice, and as I say, healthy debate is good. My best wishes.

Without debate, there is little stimulation. Without stimulation, there is no change. In circumstances, such as many people land here, without change there likely to be a suboptimal outcome.

For those who want to feel in control of their condition, I believe it is important they think through and formulate their own strategy. That ownership will foster a far greater compliance to whatever regime they select than someone told to do x, y or z and blindly going along with it.

Diabetes is a very challenging condition. It is relentless. There is absolutely no denying that, so I need to feel I am in control and any steps I take are considered, measured, ideally proven, by testing, over time.

Change Management is a very fascinating discipline, which I have studied at some length, so might get a hit enthusiastic about it.

Actually @AndBreathe, I like your enthusiasm. You're right about debate being stimulating. It's been fascinating to be honest. This post has demonstrated how alike, and yet so different, we all are. Quite an oxymoron! I can see you want to inspire others with your strong opinions about self management, control & regime of ownership. Not always popular subjects, and can be controversial. But your statistics clearly show these lifestyle principles work for you, and as a strong-willed person, you're benefiting from your change management style. We are who we are and diversity is a good thing. I admire your strength of character. Best wishes.

10 outta 10 for coming back and thanking us all. There are so many that don't that it does make me wonder why some people take the time to offer advice, me included.

That should offset the guilt a bit You'll be fine @Alisonjane10 ...

Daks, you are human. I posted a recipe for Almond and Yoghurt pancakes on the 'Post your recipes here' thread a few days ago and they are delicious and filling.

That's not a treat. It's a compromise. Great for your regular day to day diet. But a treat is proper pancakes. Fasting day for me I'm not talking about food Anymore!!

Thanks! I think like the low carb postie it's not hard when you get used to it. But my was it hard to get used to!

One man's treat, is another man's compromise. Isn't this just another example of where we, as individuals, set our individual risk/reward parameters?
