Anonymous question submitted:

I have been a diabetic for over 40 years and am totally out of the loop when I go for yearly appointments to the clinic they don't tell me about anything new that is happening with diabetes I think they just expect you to know.

at the moment I am in a lot of pain in my hands, knees and shoulders and it is getting me down I have been to the otho clinic and had cortisone injections which work for about 3 weeks and then the pain and stiffness is back any ideas about how to control pain. paracetomals, diclofenec and ibruprofen don't work

So difficult to answer these Anonymous Questions as there no feed-back from the person asking.

I don't think clinics do discuss what new with regards to diabetes unless they think it may be beneficial to you, your really only there to discuss your blood and urine results and to discuss your diabetes management. The days before the Internet I use to ask if there was any new developments in the world of diabetes but just look on-line now instead, often things get mentioned here on the forum before I see it in the news.

As for the pain and stiffness, it could/could not be diabetes related and may well be arthritis, difficult to say and only a Dr can diagnose the cause and work out a treatment plan for you.

Hi ,
Dont know if this will be of any help or interest to you . I have been type one for 17 years. I had pain for approx 7 years, in my knees , hips and then also arms , shoulders and hands. My consultant was not interested. I was given various pain relief to try, most did not touch pain. I was referred to another consultant who was both interested and sympathetic, he did blood tests , found I was vitamin d deficient and prescribed 3 x 1 monthly injections of vitamin d . I felt better after first injection . Have now been almost pain free for 5 months . I have had times where I thought pain might be returning but only slightly. I go for long walks, sleep a lot better and am more or less pain free. I feel I have had to cope with pain for so long that now if I feel any pain at all I start to panic thinking it might return! I realise although this has helped me it may not be solution for anyone else . I would suggest googling vitamin d deficiency for info and speak to gp and consultant . This is my first post on here and hope it may be of use.
