My finger pricker just stopped working since the lancet keeps getting stuck on where its meant to prick you through. I don't know what alternative I have to drawing some blood to identify my blood glucose, where I try to manually prick myself with the lancet needle, but it's not even close to how fast it needs to be.

Is there a way to get a new one, i'm not looking to buy a whole set of blood test equipment, just the finger pricker, I don't really have any money left so i'm all out of options.

If you don't have a nurse who might give you one ( some people on here seem to be able to phone and chat to their DSNS) then phone the manufacturer and tell them. From what I've read most will send you a new one . Until then, I can only suggest using a lancet. I've done it myself and I have to say it works for me.

Hi

As you are insulin dependant and test your bg levels (often) all you've got to do is phone up any of the bg meter companies and ask them to send you one of their meters. A new finger pricker will be in with the meter. Most of the finger prickers except Accu chek will all take the same lancet so dont worry..........

In the meantime, grit your teeth and quickly stab your finger using one of the lancets you already have.

Hi NMR1991!

Ring your doctor - testing equipment is on prescription for Type 1s. You might have to change meter to whichever models your GP prescribes, but you should get all the supplies for it on prescription. You should be able to get the prescription immediatelly an take it to a large pharmacy. iHs is correct in that the manufacturers willprobably send you a replacement for free, but that will take a couple of days. You should make sure whatever you do, you have a spare set of testing equipment - ask you doctor for a spare at the same time!

As already said, just phone manufacturer for free replacement. Or get a whole new kit from one of the many (like bayer) who give away free kit to get their money from the strips, keep the pricker then throw the rest away. Or get a replacement from doc. All free.

Finally, you can also get Unistik (link) on prescription (they're reasonably cheap if you cannot) which don't need a lancing device and are quite useful to have if you don't feel like fiddling with the exposed needles on a train or such
