I've been type 1 for sixteen years but no one has ever told me how to carb count only sugar. I just guess how much to inject when eating based on 16 years of practice. But is there a more professional way of deciding how much to inject based on what I eat. I'm going to go on a course in a few months for a week to educate me about carb counting. Only 16 years late!

I use:-
Carbs and cals (iPhone app)... A quick reference for most foods and drinks on your phone or iPad.
Gi &GL counter (Hamlin books £3.99). A great pocket book you can carry around with you.
My fitness pal (iPhone app)..... With this app you can input your total meal and drink input over a day and it will give you a breakdown of food and drink consumed (fat, protein, carbs calories). I use it about once per month.... It also predicts your weight, so you know if you are heading up or down. Allow a couple of hours to fill in all your details at first, but a very interesting a useful tool.

Take a look at the following which is an on-line carb counting course similar to the DAFNE course:

I was exactly the same and even my hubby says that dafne changed my life! Carbs and calls is a great book/app
