Hi
Embarrassing but need to get myself going again. Not over concerned but I would like to be able to weigh in more frequently with better accuracy.

I do eat mainly green veg but I don't think it's enough!

Borderline T2, serial yo-yo dieter but firmly sticking to LCHF with IF

After leaving hospital I was having severe problems so took a Senna tablet at bed time twice which got me going again.

I now take Fybogel at bed time though it is recommended for in the morning and the evening, it seems to help keep things moving and is fairly gentle in its action but does take a bit of getting used to.

Eat Psyllium husk 0r Chia seeds are natural and good

Found some psyllium husk tablets in cupboard so had two of those. And now we wait.....

Lots of water, st least 8 glasses a day and around 4g (teaspoon) of salt. With LCHF and fasting you leach salt

I had the same problem... But now ok and followed the above

Diagnosed 13/4/16: T2, no meds, HbA1c 53, FBG 12.6, Trigs 3.6, HDL .75, LDL 4.0, BP 169/95, 13st 8lbs, waist 34" (2012 - 17st 7lbs, w 42").

2/6/16: FBG AV 4.6, Trigs 1.5, HDL 2.0, LDL 3.0, BP 120/72, 11st 11lbs, waist 30" (2012 - 17st 7lbs, w 42").

Regime: 20g LCHF, run 1 mile daily, weekly fasting.

5/6/16: Two BP readings now 112/64 & 112/66

My usual 'habits' would be considered to be constipation by most people, so with LCHF and certainly with the 800 cal blood sugar diet, it became worse. I found that having flaxseed has helped. My favourite way of having it is flax choc pudding, much like its more expensive cousin chia pudding.

Flax, water, cocoa and sweetener (if you want). I like a little cream if I have it in. It goes gloopy like chia seeds. Only takes a couple of minutes to make - no chilling overnight!

Lots of water is essential as @KevinPotts said

I wish I could do psyllium, flax, chia etc. literally stops my digestion in its tracks. Amazing how some do so well with them and others not so much. I am a definite not

I did it with bad prawns once.

Sorry.

Just plenty of fluid, vegetables, nuts/seeds, and fats work for me... When I first started low carbing, it took a couple of weeks for my system to get used to its new regime. Since then I rarely get constipated unless I'm not eating and drinking enough; but I also have the situation where I don't actually need to go so often because I'm not eating as much, or fasting a bit, so there's less waste to be processed. For the first I'd make sure I was definitely eating and drinking enough - I've never really needed a helping hand and the only time I ever tried the psyllium husks (not the pill form) they made me feel so awful with dreadful pain that I actually thought for a while that it was appendicitis...and that's made me a bit cautious! But in the second situation, I'd personally leave well alone as I don't think any intervention is required as a little time will sort this out.

Lord I could really go a regular dump.
LCHF for +30 months, drink water as if there was going to be none tomorrow, avocado a day, tried psyllium husk and months of Chia seed pudding, which is good...
and yet still it can be days... and then a delicate procedure...
Might take up @JohnEGreen recommendation and will report back.

Fat matters. Get enough

Until my beloved avocado I took 750 mg of magnesium OXIDE and worked like a charm. I recommended it to many people and it changed their pooping life haha

In the olden days I was regular....

...alas those days are gone! Eating less = less poo makes sense!

Thanks guys!

Milk of magnesia did the trick for me during my 2-3 weeks adaptation phase.

I actually don't know. I got the tip from Diet Doctor and it worked amazingly. Just 20 ml fro the cap first thing in the morning and so was a happy camper

Ugh, milk of magnesia. My Mum used to give it to us as kids.

These days if I need it I take a sachet of Laxido, it seems more gentle than fybogel. But with anything you will need to drink loads of water anyway so maybe just try the water route first.

No sugar jelly with coconut yogurt cream and raspberries work for me I will have 2 helpings a day morning and night.

I'd say, fundamental is hydrating enough. My "performance" (Ahem) also improved when I increased the fat in my diet, to the extent I didn't need the spoonful of bran with my breakfast.

The magnesium hydroxide in Milk of Magnesia pretty much draws more water to the intestine, increasing bulk and,........ Hey presto!

Years ago, I asked MrB how he managed to do his thing at almost exactly the same time each routine day. His response was training. Further questions ensued; resulting in the following:

- Drink enough water
- Eat well (whatever that meant 20 years ago)
- Whether one has an immediate urge or not, spend 5 minutes in the small room a the same time every day. (If nothing happens in 5 minutes, repeat the process later, or answer an urge)

On a routine day (i.e., one not driven by extraordinary events, not necessarily meaning the same thing happens at the same time every day), I sort of know where he'll be at a certain time.

I was astonished to find how effective the 5 minute pause was in making a habit, although for me it doesn't always work, but one thing (for me anyway) is for sure, expecting to respond to be able to respond to random urges reduces the regularity of my visits, as it's not always convenient to just head for the little room. Regularly "pausing" that urge is, in my view, a form of training the body to go less often.

That 5 min thing sounds like a really good plan!

Training, I guess, should work! Certainly that's the case with my bladder habits, anyway - as I child I would be made to have a pre-tea wee, or a pre-going-out wee, a 'we've arrived where we're going, so just have a wee' - a now-we've-got-home wee - talk about brainwashing!

Worked though. A little too well. I still get the automatic urge to wee in all of the above scenarios..........!
