how do you open private messages from other members?

I have been sent an email saying that I have got a private message from another member. I went to the link, signed in and then was told that I do not have permission?
What does that mean? How do I get permission? Why does opening a message have to be so complicated?
 
Its not but you have to make 5 posts before you can pm, so saying thankyou to me will take you to five.

Dawn has given you info about how you will be able to receive PM's. There is actually a good reason for needing "permission", unfortunately there are some unscrupulous little nerks around that join just to cause hassle and spam forum members with unsolicited PM's.

This hopefully deters them.
