Just wanted to know how do you stop your fingers from getting sore from testing,I do try to use other fingers but than tend to go back to the same one I also only use my left hand so should I try doing it on my right hand also my tester is on 3 i did try lowering it but had no joy so feel that I should keep it on this number.
Any Advice would be appreciated Thank you.

Morning ally1 difficult isn't it I don't over test I did manage to get a bruise on one of my fingers so left that one alone for a few days and it went back to normal.

Hi,

I use both hands. and the sides of the pads on every finger (on the edge of the fingerprint).

This gives me 20 different test spots before I need to reuse. And if I wanted to get really systematic (which I REALLY dont ) I could use the tip and base of the fingerprint area, on each side of each finger, giving me 40 test spots before I needed to re-use a spot.

I've got my stabby thing set for the minimum depth that will yield the smallest drop of blood that will get sucked up by the strip.

So far, no soreness...

You basically have to use all fingers and both sides of all of them. After a while you will become immune to the feeling.

The other tip is to set the lancing device to the least depth that you can still get a drop of blood with.

Thank you everyone still getting use to testing so it is good to know that I can use every finger,I did try my setting on 2 but had no joy so 3 definitely works for me.Will not be afraid now to use other fingers.

The same as advised by Brunneria above, but I was advised by my DN not to prick the thumb or index fingers. I guess because these fingers are used more often in a pinching fashion and therefore pricking them may make them sensitive. In the 4 months of my finger pricking I have only bruised fingers twice. I think this was due to not changing the lancet soon enough .

Thank you I didn't even think about using my thumbs forgot they were on my hands lol.

Read this somewhere, Palm does sound odd though.

Talk to your doctor to see if alternate site testing is right for you. With a little bit of education, you can give your fingertips a rest and maybe test more often than you do now. For people with diabetes, more frequent testing is a good thing. Just remember: any time you want to be sure of an accurate, up-to-date blood glucose reading, test on your fingertip or palm.

Really don't fancy it Robin I shake as it is waiting for the needle to hit my finger surprised I have managed to actually prick my finger as I also close my eyes.

From my personal experience - yes you get used to it. The HbA1c though....... well I'm still working on that one.

Thanks that is my next blood test the HbA1c is it not like a normal blood test?I had the glucose one done that that was bad enough especially when she said you have to drink the lucozade in one go.

Yes. It's like a normal blood test. Well I'm guessing it is. I don't actually look at my arm. I'm too busy reading the posters on the wall opposite and concentrating on breathing. lol. At least I don't hyperventilate anymore or burst into tears.
