How long does it take for glucose levels to begin to fall?

I've cut my carbs in half and have been on around 160g for a week. When do think I should start to see some change?

Also, would you expect dizziness, if so does it pass if you stick to the regime? I have cut back on calories but Ive increased protein and fats so my calories arent too low.

160 g still seems quite a lot. Are you testing? What BG levels are you getting?

I don't see any benefit at all with that amount of carbs. I don't really measure them, but would guess that I eat well under 100g, with a target under 50g.

Any more than that and I have the carb problems creeping back.

We are all different, but try reducing down in steps until you start feeling the benefit. Or cut back hard, give it a couple of weeks, then reintroduce carbs in steps (like in the Atkins induction phase) until you hit your personal carb wall.

Regarding the dizziness, it isn't something I have ever had.

Have you got a blood glucose meter? That might shed more light.

If you have cut your carbs by half, the dizziness could well be a temporary reaction to that. Your body will be used to more, and is tempting you to feed it more carbs. If this is indeed the case, it will pass in a few days.

Regarding change; are you talking about blood scores? They can happen fairly soon, but you may need to think about trimming your carbs a bit more. Testing is really the only way to tell where you are on a day to day basis, at the outset.

Keep going.

I agree with the others I went down to between 60 and 90g to start with but have increased that back up now that I have control and normal levels.

You could combat the higher level of carbs with exercise (about 40 minutes after eating and this will get your muscles to use the glucose that is entering into your blood stream. Not it isnt strenuous exercise just walking for 15 to 30 mins will help.

Thanks everyone.

I think I will keep at the same level of carbs for the time being as I have cut them by 50%, then think about reducing them further.
The dizziness has settled down and the difference between my pre meal and 2 hours later scores are smaller.
