How long for low carb diet to show in blood glucose level

Hi, can anyone tell me how long it takes for low carb diet to start showing in blood glucose levels. I’ve been doing it for a week and my fasting blood glucose level this morning had gone up from 7.6 to 7.9, was hoping it would have gone done a bit or does it take a while to show?

What are your levels like at other times, eg. before meals and 2 hours post meal, and bedtime?

Fasting levels are normally the last to drop and can take many months to drop to "normal" levels because there are so many outside factors involved, and also an important factor is the severity of our insulin resistance.

Personally I feel you would be better to stop taking your fasting levels for now and concentrate on your before and after meals. Get those down to "normal" and your fasting will follow. In most people the best indicator of how we are doing is the reading before our evening meal (unless we have been munching in the afternoon!)

This is a marathon, not a sprint. Things don't happen over night.

I was diagnosed T2 in November with an Hba1c of 53. I've dieted and exercised and my bs is now generally in the normal range except that my fasting readings are sometimes above 6. I couldn't see any real improvement in the fasting numbers until I plotted them on a graph. The graph shows a very slight downward trend which has given me new enthusiasm. Some days the reading is higher than others, but the overall trend is down. Stick with it Waterlily2. It takes time and there will be setbacks but you will get there.

I was diagnosed in June 2017 with a Fasting Blood Glucose of 7.8 - hence my diagnosis.

I have been testing using a BG meter since Christmas and my average BG level has been 5.8, although my fasting periods during this time were about 6-8hours, as opposed to the 12 hours when I was tested in June. My highest has been 6.2 and my lowest was 5.2.

I agree with @Bluetit1802 in that a test late afternoon/early evening is a good barometer of where you are.

Fasting tests in the morning are usually the last tests to show the overall improvements you have achieved, and sometimes can be disheartening.

Following a low carb diet will take time to show in your levels, but eventually it will and your hard work will pay off.

Those are great numbers, under the diabetic level mostly, well done
