How long should it take for my BS to return to normal?

Hi

I'm just getting over a chest infection and throughout it my BS has been much higher than normal which I know is normal but I finished my anti biotics three days ago and they're still really high and I feel much better so can't understand it. My early morning reading was 7.7 (usually 5-6) and post breakfast (very small bowl of porridge) it was 9.8! After my dinner last night which had hardly any carbs and a small glass of wine it was 11.8. I'm really worried about this continuing, should I be a bit more patient and it will probably even out soon or should I be pushing this more with my doctor?

Cheers
Meg

Hi Meg,
I would give it a week to ten days after finishing the antibiotics.
I expect you are not fully recovered and are not expending as much energy as normal yet and that will also make a difference.

I hope someone else will reply who has been in this situation.

Take care.

Hey there!

I had a cold followed by a chest infection a couple of weeks ago. My BGs went up into the mid teens and my injected insulin seemed to stop working so ended up doubling the doses. Once the anti bioethics started working, the BG came down gradually, but I still needed extra insulin for the whole of the following week. 2 weeks on and I've finally got back to normal, so give it time!

Hope it sorts itself out soon.

Thanks Smidge

Actually for the first time in a few weeks my BS was 7.0 after dinner and 6.7 this morning so it looks like it's getting back to normal now :D I can also tell by my eyesight, the bluryness has now gone. I just hate it when that happens because you feel so helpless to correct it.
