This is my first time to post on here......

(apologies if stupid question)

I am T1D, age 47yrs. Been T1D for 24 years. I see a consultant once a year who is happy with my control. Not received any letters to shield.

I have been isolating since 20th March, not leaving the house other than a very early Morning dog walk to maintain sanity. Husband goes to shops etc.

I’ve had numerous friends (and family too) ask if I’m “doing the 12 weeks of Isolation then going to stop?”?!

I have three children, one in Yr10 and one in Yr6, both in years that the Government have decided can return to school (3rd child is young so no question of their return to school ATM)

Children possibly returning to school feels higher risk than husband occasionally shopping (maybe this is incorrect thinking)

My point is, how long to isolate for? I know this is a “crystal ball” question but was just curious to see what others were thinking/planning to do?

Thank you

Hi, @sianewilson I haven't self isolated and type 1 31 years and I am not in the very high risk group, so it would be down to individual choice.
Do you have other conditions that might put you in the very high risk group ?

I take medication for SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) essentially an irregular heartbeat

I have spoken to them, I asked if I’m doing the right thing and she said yes. But I didn’t ask how long to continue.

That's good that you have spoken to them, you could just play it by ear and ease into it gradually, but do what you feel is best for you.
Take care and stay safe.

Hi @sianewilson, I have also been isolating since before lockdown. I don't have any advice, I think I'm just going to have to keep plodding along and see what happens

You can only really take your healthcare team’s advice and do what best suits your own health, really.

FWIW I’m a frontline NHS keyworker of your age, regularly in contact with Covid patients, married to a postal worker who is working in the plague pit of a main mail hub. Our year 12 boy is keen to get back to school when it opens as he’s not able to learn well at home.

Horses for courses.

thank you for your reply (and both you and your husband’s jobs for which I am extremely grateful)

we have a saying in our house that different people are different (my daughter declared this when she was three) and I am aware people will do what feels right for them. I was just curious what others were thinking

keep safe ♥️

Hi there, I think many of us make our choices within the confines of work and commitments rather than anything else. If we had a free choice we would probably do what you are doing by staying mainly at home and heeding the social distancing advice which if it was still lockdown we'd mostly have done anyway. If that can't be done then it's back to washing hands and keeping 2 metres away from anyone. Personally, my job is high risk so I am still working from home but outside of work I am still social distancing, what else is there to do anyway? :)
