Hi
Diagnosed 12 months ago with hba1c of 98. Today told it is 36 and told not to let it get any lower! Not in any meds- dsn doesn't believe my diabetes could have been temporary although the doctor last year said that it was likely to have been steroid induced and that it may revert to normal range. I guess I am just wondering if it has been temporary then does the low level really matter? Not that I am in denial if I have diabetes then I have it. Have reduced carbs certainly during last year, bmi had been 26.8 so a little high but do have a fair bit of muscle from sports. Now 24.1.
Two things come to my mind
- if you are not on any meds, how are you expected to keep your BG higher?
- HbA1c is an average over last 3 months. A result of 36 is likely to mean you have not experienced any high BG over that time.
Your result sounds great and, if you can maintain it through exercise and diet, I would suggest just keep doing what you have been doing.
Thanks couldn't see any reason for the suggestion and was a bit thrown when the nurse suggested it today. Guess I will keep doing what I am doing and see what happens. She wants to see me in 6 months
If you're not on any medication, and therefore you're at no risk of hypos, there's no such thing as a hba1c that is too low. Advice not to let it get any lower seems ridiculous, what are you supposed to do, stuff your face with sugar to keep it up?
