A lot depends on the availability of test strips for type 2's.
When you first start out then test on waking, before and after breakfast, before and after dinner, before and after your evening meal and before you go to bed.
The 2hourly test after meals is suggested here to avoid the confusion that newly diagnosed are suffering.
Once your food diary is starting to make sense and you can see patterns emerging and you have the test strips you need then you can also test 1 hour after meals. There are some foods that will not show the rise until after the 2 hours, maybe 3 or 4 or even longer as the fat content of the meal has slowed down your digestion.
As so many type 2's are having to fund their own test strips you can see what a costly exercise this is for them.
Hope this hasn't confused you more.
