I've always been told not to count the carbs for alcoholic drinks as alcohol lowers blood sugar levels.

Got a friend who's wife is T1. - for every 2 pints she drinks, she has a shot of vodka to balance it out.

Personally, two pints of pretty much anything would put me on the floor. - that's if I could get past the taste problem in the first place! Vodka, on the other hand, is very drinkable. Especially when mixed half and half with champagne. :) haven't tried this out since diagnosis though so don't know what it would do to BG.

I also thought that alcohol lowered BG. I'm also very interested in getting a definitive answer to this one, as we're planning a major girls night out (aka going on the pull) in a few weeks. - I've never had female friends before and have absolutely no idea how these things work ( yes, I am serious! ) but I think it might be easier and less embarrassing with a few drinks inside me! - I'm T2. That means that I won't go hypo, right? Even with alcohol??

Personally, I prefer myself to be on the higher end of normal blood glucose on heading to bed after alcohol. My DSN told me that should a person go hypo during the night with alcohol in their system they will not only be less likely to wake up, but the liver will be too busy dealing with the alcohol to put out glucose for the hypo. It's called "Dead in bed syndrome".
That coupled with alcohols BG lowering effects is why you should not inject for cards in alcoholic drinks.

Dead in Bed???!

Scared now! Looks like I'm going to have to brave all that girly bonding stone cold sober. SO not fair! - I wasn't kidding about never having any real female friends, this is scary stuff! - I'd go out with the guys but then all the WAGs will gate crash and its exhausting dealing with all the totally ridiculous hostility! - Yes, men and women can be friends, - and, besides, if you don't trust your bloke, what are you doing with him????

- sorry OP, got side tracked. Still interested to know about Rose and BG.....?

According to MyFitnessPal, a 125ml glass of Mateus Rose is 89 calories, 2g carbs.

Hornplayer you dont need to drink alcohol ,your posts show you are a very funny girl with a bubbly personality so go out and drink tonic ,it looks like a proper drink so just go for it but just one thing please tell your friends about the diabetes so nobody spikes your drinks as you could be very ill then :D

Does that mean I can have a couple of glasses of wine and be ok ( diet controlled type 2)? Im just leaving.
