I am doing the .no white carbs...but still unsure as to how many carbs I should be eating in a day and what foods are best and what are not so good.
I think I probably need a list of the amounts of carbs in various foods any advice please

Hello there
My daily dosage of carbs is around 30 g mainly from green veg and other low carb veg such as celeriac, swede. Some would say that is v low carb I would say it is saving me from DB complications later.

It does take a while to adjust as just realising where the hidden carbs lurk rakes time.. If you can get a Colin's Little Gem Calorie Counter book. Ignore the calorie column and just focus on the carb column.

You say you are not doing the white carbs but remember things like brown bread and brown rice can have the same carb count as their white alternative. Use the book to check out the numbers.

Thank you I will get the book. You say you have celeriac and swede I thought root veg were not good Some people say only eat the veg that grows above ground not beneath it

hi, do you have a smart phone? download the app "myfitnesspal" it gives you all the info on what we eat, there is an online version for the computer if not but that means you cant zap barcodes, otherwise this is a list of vegetables but easy to find lists on all sorts of food...

how many a day depends on how many you cant tolerate and not put up your bgs, are you testing? its the only way really to know, if you are trying to lose weight you should trial and error, ive heard people say if they go above 70g a day they start to put on weight again but everyone is different which isnt very helpful sorry, i try to stick to 30g for blood levels mainly, but as i say without testing how could you know

best of luck

edit: i cant eat swede

Andy,
I have downloaded the app my fitness pal but I can't find the barcode scanner??

Vinny

they just updated the app i see, its in the bottom right hand corner of the screen when you click add food, persevere it was instrumental in my successes, its amazing when you get to grips with it

hmmmm is it an iphone? my barcode is in the bottom right corner (little picture of a barcode lol) hit the add to diary button and it should be there, ill go see if theres any instruction on how to use it brb

Thanks for your patience Andy, this is gonna be a great help!
For anyone else reading this there is a video tutorials section on Barcode scanning under the 'Help' section which is a slightly faster way to access the info.

Thanks again Andy - perseverance paid off!
I think it's gonna be a cracking little app.

I used it in Asda today - love it.
It will change the way I eat. I don't believe in diets but all my breakfasts will now be very low carb!
I'll look into lunches next week!!
