hi all
I'm not really needing to lose weight but I'm choosing low carb again because in the past it worked to lower BG and helped neuropathy... can anyone tell me if there is a level of carbs to just stay as i am weight wise or is it trial and error.

what should my starting point be? 20g of carbs 30g 40g etc?

T1 or T2?
What your average readings?
Hello by the way.

Welcome aboard mate.
Bit late around this place now and gone quiet but lots of people will be around to give you as much advice as you need.
Hope your feeling reasonable.
You're in the right place for better health.

thanks for the welcome anyway jack, much appreciated

Hi numan, you'll find heaps of help here.

Have you had any dietary advice? This can be a bit tricky though. Have a look around, like success stories. Low carbing can be very successful indeed. If you are on bg-lowering meds you need to be careful though and a bg meter is vital n order to see what happens. You don't want to go too low.

I am a fan of the Dietdoctor. His advice on lowering bg: http://www.dietdoctor.com/diabetes

and on LCHF (low carb high fat) http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf

Do you know your HbA1c?

@numan43 - Hi - unfortunately there's no "one size fits all" answer - your glucose meter test results will will tell you how you are doing on reducing your levels, and this will be a guide to how many/few carbs you'll need to reach your targets. But in addition you'll probably need to adjust the amounts fat and protein you eat in order to maintain your weight, since by reducing your carbs you're also reducing the amount of fuel your body is getting. You can either do this by checking your weight over time against the amount you're eating, or try one of the online calculators - such as this one here - which will help you work out these proportions for various scenarios.

I have been on 36g carbs per day with steady weight for 9 months. BMI 22. Once you get your test strips eat to it.

thanks for the advice guys.......if i was intent on losing weight i would start at 20g daily and then increase slowly when at target but as i just want to maintain im not sure where to start on the amount of carbs or just to cut out the main villains eg bread, potatoes, pasta etc and not bother with specific carb gram numbers
