hi there could anyone tell me how much insulin you have according to your blood level?i understand this depends on what your eat what you doing so it would need adjusting to that, and its down to indervisual but is there a rough guide?thanks 8) .

hi,
I think everyone is different. My son has 7 units of lantus as his basal and 1 unit of apidra for 20 grams of carbs but his consultant has said he is on a very small amount for his height and weight. You should really talk to your nurse because too much and you have problems, too little you have problems. I wouldnt like to guess. By the way my son is 13 and 5 foot 5.

This is also a kids guide but his recommend level is to have somewhere between 0.8 and 1.2 units of insulin per kilo body weight. This guide would be used for children of a healthy height/weight ratio and would be adjusted if the child was under/over weight or participating in a lot of sport.

And then think of all the other things that affect level......

I remember our consultant saying that it's roughly 1 unit of insulin per kilo body weight for children. Jess has around 22 units per day (it varies depending on what she eats and what excersise she does though) and she weighs 24kg.

Her insulin ratios are 1:8 at breakfast, 1:13 at lunch, and 1:12 for the evening meal. She has 6 units of Levemir in the morning and 5 units of Levemir in the evening. For a correction dose I give 1 unit Novorapid for every 3 mmol I want to reduce her blood sugars by.
