How long would it take before someone was able to make a meaningful impact on their overall blood sugar levels through diet and a more active lifestyle? 2 - 3 weeks? Those on the newcastle diet seem to be able to lower their morning bg within 1 - 2 days so what causes this reduction is bg so quickly? Is it using up all the glucose stored in the liver.. be interested to know...

I think it depends on what levels are to start with, The "Newcastle" ones had mostly been on medication which in some cases was lowered during the study. For me using diet (not Newcastle), weight loss and exercise it took a few months but my levels were very high to begin with. May be it would have been a lot quicker if I had tried the Newcastle diet. Possibly someone here who tried the Newcastle ideas from the beginning might share their experience.

When I was diagnosed my BG was in the 20s and put purely on insulin (novomix 30), but I totally rehashed my diet and introduced going walking for an hour and a half 3 times a week, I have back issues which prevent me doing anything more vigorous. It took about 10 days but my figures now range from 4.2 to 6.8 and I am only taking 6 units of insulin before breakfast and evening meal.
