should I pinprick myself to check my glucose level?

I think I read somewhere it should be approx 2 hours?

Is this correct?

P.S. I noticed the other evening, after a glass of sherry, my glucose level shot up to 8.9. Is this anything to worry about? (I'm otherwise teetotall and a non-smoker)

2 hours is the time at which your blood sugar should have returned to 'normal' after a meal so that is when you should test.

What kind of sherry was it? The carb content seems to vary a lot between them;

Sherry dry 100ml - 1.5
Sherry medium 100ml - 3.5
Sherry sweet 100ml - 7

This may explain your jump

twas Waitrose's Amontillado 18.5% vol Medium Dry of which, at the very most, I take twice a week but, more often than not, just once a week (sometimes none)

Alcohol will drop your blood sugar eventually so it's just a little spike
