soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I've written several times that I'm married to a type 1 who has almost all known complications. I have been trying to get him to cut his carbs and calculate bolus doses. To save his damaged kidneys.
I thought I was gettng somewhere.
Last HbA1 c was better.
Today he came home at lunchtime bringing "MY lunch"
1 cheese and onion sandwich from the bakers
1 packet crisps
1 plastic container
Pure Orange juice
His explanation when i queried his diet
" I have a no-carb breakfast;doesn't eat breakfast
what I like for lunch
Low carb dinner.
(that's prepared by me and his portion usually contains a few carbs.)
I haven't mamnaged to get him to take control of this at all!
Any or all hints accepted. always providing it's not something i've already tried with and failed.

Baseball bat!!

Seriously I can't suggest anything.I have a husband who ,if not diabetic,is nearly there.I am dreading him being diagnosed as he is totally non compliant with any attempt to diet.He eats all day,his weight is rocketing and I just can't do anything with him at all.At the end of the day he is an adult in his right mind and it is his choice but it is very frustrating to watch.

I have a cousin like that, grrrrrr, your husband isnt a Taurus by any chance is he? Only asking because some, not all, Taureans have the ability to kid themselves, eg my cousin has a considerable gut hanging off him, he stands in front of the mirror and just does not see it, he reckons its just bad posture, and if he stands in a certain way he looks slim therefore there is no need to lose weight. Standing him on scales, its the scales that are broken or he is wearing too heavy clothes or he has just eaten thats why they show more, he has even been known to take the scales around the house to find the spot where he weighs least.

His super fit and slim wife has tried everything to get him to lose weight, from being nice to threatening, to talking and ignoring him, she cried bitter tears because she is so worried about him, his blood pressure is off the scale, his doctor warned him to lose weight or else, but just nothing works, they have a 3 year old grandson, my brother was told that if he wants to see the little one grow up he should lose some weight,he is also very unfit. But nothing, absolutely nothing any of us have tried works.

Transfats? Whats that??? Carbs? We need them, preferably in the shape of doughnuts and crisps and beer.

He is an adult and ultimately has to face the consequences of his unhealthy lifestyle, sad that the rest of us have to suffer though.

There is a bit of hope though, but must not talk to soon, Liz is cooking just the healthy meals, if he wants them, all well and good, if he doesnt, he is on his own, cook your own stuff. After playing up and ordering take aways he kind of got bored, probably also because nobody is nagging him any more, for the last two weeks he has eaten the healthy good for him meals, he lost almost a stone, Liz just shrugged her shoulders, of course she is very pleased but is pretending that it doesnt bother her either way, just in case he thinks that now he can revert to his old ways, she just carries on as normal.

So from this, maybe use some basic child psychology, it might work....

There is a cartoon that shows an overweight bloke and an attractive woman both looking into a mirror.
He sees Mr Universe look back at him, she sees a bum the size of a bus looking back at her.

If I find it I'll post it.

me? I see mr universe :D
