Insulin
I have had Insulin treated diabetes since 1999. I'm really focused on looking after myself at the moment
I have endless appointments
  1. Six Monthly Hospital Reviews
  2. Blood Test (7 days before)
  3. Six Monthly GP Reviews
  4. Blood Test (7 days before)
  5. Diabetes Nurse appointments for BGS management and other therapies
  6. Podiatry
  7. Retinopathy
  8. Psychotherapy (weekly)
How do I explain to people I work with that I'm always doing important stuff to do with my health, but I'm not going to die or be seriously ill but I do need to be with the Doctor?

How do other people manage these expectations?

In the past - I've just not taken my Diabetes seriously and so I've not availed myself of all the therapies I need.

Hi Kevin,

My work is great!

How I go about it.?
I explain that because of the "unique way the NHS is managed", they throw these uncompromising appointments at me, so I should grab these opportunities with both hands in order to preserve health & longevity...

As sign of "good faith" I show any appointment letters to my employer so they know I'm not "taking the proverbial".
To be honest. They embarrassingly decline to look. But always ask how I got on when I get back.
I'm rarely of I'll off work & should the need arrise. Help with any extra cover when I can...

there is no certain way to do that, but you could tell people this excactly : I am not going to die from this, there is just much more regulation and excaminations here right in the beginning of this disease, and that insuline makes it nessesary to be much more precise in all the ways one do the medications and lifestyle than in many other cronical diseases

Thanks for your reply Freema, I don't need to ask for time of work, it's more about managing expectations of the people I am "working" with.
Today a colleague needed me to jump into an important meeting, at 15:00. I had already declined the meeting, and spoken to him to tell him why I could not attend. I ended up calling him from the waiting room.
I realise, I had been too low key about my hospital appt which is why he forgot, but I don't want to make a big fuss, by explaining the totality of diabetes management.
I'd say it's always been an issue for me in my life, carving out the stuff that is important for me. I need to start being clearer about my needs without being a jerk.
The graph below shows the work I've done to manage my condition
Hence I'm asking here.
