Hi, I'm conflicted so thought of asking for opinions.

There's this young boy with diabetes type 1 whose mother tells teachers to only give him insulin when his readings are 20+. She also only sends packets of candies, biscuits, cakes, everything sugary and nothing healthy for snacks. The teachers do as they're told, even when they think it's not right. The way I see it, the mother is slowly killing her child and everyone is allowing it. I'm not saying she's doing it on purpose. For all I know, she might be unaware of how her lack of care for his blood sugar levels are harmful for his health now and in the future. She might be overwhelmed by having a kid with diabetes and, maybe, no support, I don't know. All I know is, as a close friend of someone who's been diabetic since a young age that suffers the consequences of the long term condition, it pains me to think about all the damage that boy's body must be suffering that could be avoided should anyone stood up for him.
Any advice?

What is your relation to this child?
Are you working at the school?

It starts with an individual healthcare plan, which involves the childs health care provider, not only the parent.

From this website:

There are four important things to remember when putting the right care in place at your school:
• A medical conditions policy must be in place (you’ll find a sample copy of this in your pack).
• An Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) must be written for the child. There’s a template available at www.diabetes.org.uk/schools
• Appropriate training for school staff must be arranged.
• Parents, school staff and the child’s Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse (PDSN) must work together so the child receives the individualised care they need.

And here's some more on diabetes at school: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/your-child-and-diabetes/schools/school-staff

If you work in a school in whatever capacity wether paid or voluntary there will official protocol for this, your first port of call is the staff member responsible for child protection. Really that is the only route you should be going down.

This is a really difficult situation, but it is good that you have noticed. Poor lad! I hope that you can contact the appropriate people to protect this child from the mother's ignorance, before long-term damage is done.
