Type 1 How to re-apply for driving license after it has expired when you are diabetic

Hi,

Not sure if anyone can help but thought I would try here after losing my will to live with DVLA /Gov website and DVLA call waiting!

I let my driving license expire 5 or 6 years ago (worked in town, didn't need a car and the 3 year period came and went).

I would like to get it back and, after a few eye problems but nothing severe enough to prevent me from driving (according to the ophthalmologist), I am trying to re-apply.

Problem is, which form is it that I need to fill in? For the life of me I cannot get a clear answer! I know they will need to check with doctors etc but I cannot figure out where to start.

Ay help much appreciated

Cheers.

I honestly wonder why people do this, a drivers licence is a asset not to be thrown away.

It takes a fair amount of effort and money to get the necessary driving hours / skills up to scratch. Then pass the driving test when you are nervous etc.

My UK licence expired when I turned 70, I kept renewing it since I was 25 when I left the UK.

I wish you luck on getting your licence again mate.

I'd imagine it'll be the DIAB1 form regardless if you've have/haven't revalidated your license within the restricted period.

You can try filling in the online form, or print off and post the hardcopy form:

@ageastlake - Using the site search facility on the site, abou the closest I could find to your situation is here:

To be honest, I might be inclined to just call and hang on with the DVLA, to talk to someone. The prospect of applying on a best efforts basis, then to find it returned because of some small detail could be so very frustrating to me anyway.

Thank goodness of cordless phone and speakerphones. At least one can make a cup of tea (or several!) whilst waiting.

It would be very useful if you'd let us know how it goes, then we'd have that information in the site for someone else in the future. I hope it all goes well.

Its a paper exercise not re sitting a driving test. How ridiculous.
