How to translate the HbA1c numbers

I had to see the phlebotomist for my blood test prior to my annual diabetic review in a fortnight.

When she looked on the screen she said that the gp had tested for this three weeks ago- never told me - and it had gone up
slightly to 53.

Last year it was 7.2, so how can I work out the rise? I'm sure I had a link to a converter before but I can't find it at the
moment.
