Hubby has really high reading

Hubby randomly tested this evening and his level was 20.7, with ketones flashing on the meter.

He does have high levels sometimes when he tests but usually in the 11 odd category, his level when he was diagnosed was 21 so this is really high for him.

Anything to worry about or just a one off? I know it's difficult to say since it was a totally random test and a lot of people have randomly off-the-wall numbers.

Non-diabetics tend not to have any numbers like this. It only happens when diabetic control has slipped

Yes, I knew it was not good for anyone but I wondered what could cause that.

He's been taking his medication as usual and his diet is awful but that's nothing new either so I wondered why it had suddenly rocketed and since there's been no change in medication/diet pattern, how did it manage to get that high as I don't think most Type 2's get that. :?:

A number like that, especially as it is out of the ordinary, needs some medical attention. And fairly quickly it is a dangerous level. Have you done any other tests since then?

At the very least ring NHS Direct.
