I was out at The Italian Institute last night for a first screening of a film with a welcome drink, in my case a small glass of red wine with some carbohydrate small nibbles. I don't know the name in Italian. After the film a "light buffet" Usually that would mean salamis, cheese and canapés. No not this time - the dreaded pasta! made with sausage and butternut squash, but the portions were small and even then I only ate a tiny tiny amount os the pasta which I didn't like. I then had two teaspoonfuls of panna cotta which is made with cream with a currant juice. Not at all sweet.

So really not the best dinner for a cold evening and I had a scrambled egg with a couple of oatcakes when I returned around 10 pm.

I woke up at 5 am and took three simultaneous readings which horrified me - 9.7,/8.6,/7.5 and fasting at 9.30 am - 9.0,/8.8! Mama mia!

Was this the Dawn Phenomenon or just mismanagement of diet last night? Go on throw the book at me! lol

Could be both. I went of the rails a bit yesterday chip shop battered cod, chips, mushy peas and a little curry sauce siked up to about 8.0 but two hours or so after was at 5.2 and then this AM 4.9 so I think I got away with it. You however unfortunately didn't that's the trouble with eating stuff that you are unsure of what they contain and then as you say there is the dawn thingy. But I shouldn't be to concerned once you are back in your routine the blood sugars should settle down again.

pasta can cause some weird and wonderful delayed rises.

I hope the film was worth it!
(although I would probably have enjoyed the panna cotta)

Thanks Guys. I'll put it down to a bad experience (again!)

Update - Two hours post breakfast - 9.7 so only 0.7 ish increase, thank God!

Bearing in mind your metformin works by retarding liver dump. My money is on the latter...

To be fair, the Lantus is doing its job well!
