Humulin 70/30. Strange insulin surge just after injecting the last little amount in the tube.

Hi all,
I`m an insulin dependant Diabetic secondary from Chronic Pancreatitis. My pancreas no longer can produce anything.
I had a very odd experience Yesterday morning pretty much directly after injecting my 12 hour 70/30 Humulin.
It normally takes a good 15 to 60 mins before it starts to take effect and the start is normally at quite a slow pace.
Yesterday about 15 minutes after injecting I went from 6,9 down to 3 and I`d already had a biscuit and a coffee. Even after shed loads of lucozade original I still kept dropping. I went down to 2.6 and even after my hypo panic (just shoving anything sweet down my throat) I only went to up to 8mmol over the next hour. I was expecting it to go up to well into the 20`s.

The insulin shot was the last little bit in the tube. The pen could inject no more. It actually stopped at pretty much the right amount.

Does anyone know if it would be possible that if the mixture is not shaken properly every time it is used could the last little amount have a different affect?

It could be just one of those odd random Diabetic things but it just seemed quite out of the ordinary so I thought I`d put it out there.

Cheers

Derek.

I've been on M3 for a long time now and have never had such a quick and dramatic drop that you describe. As you probably know with M3 you do need to keep feeding it and I find it has a tendency to drop at the time of my evening injection and that's when I need to be careful.

With me, my sugar levels climb much faster in the mornings after breakfast than evenings after food, which I think is a pretty normal thing.

I've no idea if by not shaking the bottle it caused this episode but my initial reaction was to wonder if you perhaps unknowingly injected into a vein? Or, could your 6.9 reading have been incorrect i.e. something sweet on your finger gave you a higher result when you were actually a lot lower?
