Humulin M3

Just been started on Humulin M3 on Thursday and It didn't bring our sugars down two hours after I finished eating but yesterday evening I was 19.0 at 6.45pm then at 8.34pm I came down too 9.1 then a bit later at 9.54pm I was 5.9 so I'm really confused as I didn't have any evening Insulin on Friday

I thought the Insulin would start working on the first day I started taking It but It hasn't and this morning I was 9.1 because I didn't take the Humulin M3 as I didn't eat anything yesterday evening so I'm very confused right now

I really need some help as I've gotta take our Humulin M3 again tonight but why didn't work on Thursday originally as I'm scared I'll take It tonight and It won't work until Sunday I'm very frustrated

Get the leaflet out of your box of pens and have a good read.

I won't presume to guess how much you already know or what instructions your dn gave you who showed you to inject.

Are you due to inject twice a day?
What amounts of this mixed insulin are you taking? Are you injected 20mins before food as normally instructed.

In my experience 3days converts any change effectively. However we all absorb differently but our meter will tell us everything we need to know.

I did really well on m3 but needed huge doses so got changed to MDI treatment.

I'm taken 32 units of Humulin M3 in the evening followed by 32 units of Humulin I in the mornings. But I'm taken the 32 units of Humulin M3 as I'm having Chinese this evening so will definitely require this as per the instructions I have been given by the Diabetic Speckalist Nurse on friday afternoon

I am injecting as soon as our food arrives really not been told too wait 20 minutes so I take the Humulin M3 and then I eat our food and check our blood sugars 2 hours after

Ok
For better absorption take M3 20mins before food and additional 2hr testing after to see what foods you can tolerate and its lack off spike to increase/decrease units.

Humulin I is just a basal insulin only so stick to taking it same time everyday, if you can.

So your team has given you a basal and a basal & bolus injects to take one each per day?
So basal (humuin I) on a morning irrespective of food so no 20mins needed. A M3 mixed insulin (should be 20mins before evening meal) to deal with difficult evening meal high bgs.

You could change your evening meal to a low carb one to take less M3 but don't take none til you have perfect hba1c result.

Take these both meds to see what your settled bgs are. At least 3 months then revise.

Remember to test regularly to avoid hypos. Treat hypos effectively but try not to over treat them otherwise swinging high/low bgs for hours.

If you do do low carb evening meal and reduce and reduce M3 to nothing ask to see your dn sooner to update them.

Don't confuse these injections with metformin, which is needed longterm to help with insulin resistance.
Your influence from your slow insulin's will not be fully appreciated for 3days so continued use is needed to see how they are helping. Half influence will only give half the picture.
M3 has no fast acting insulin just medium acting and slow acting.

Had you had any through the night hypos yet?

Not yet I've been on Humulin I for 2 years and 6 months now Just been changed for the Humulin M3 at night 32u and I was a bit scared on Friday because the sugars levels were all over the place from 17.9 9.1 5.6 over such a short period of time and I didn't even have the Humulin M3 last night as I didn't eat any food also I don't take Metformin anymore what do u mean by Insulin Resistance?

Google it or search this website. Loads of info about the part of type2 diabetes which causes high bgs.

I didn't take my Humulin M3 again last night but had a small RICE with our Humulin I and I was 11.1 but felt comfortable too sleep on that reading and they was 8.1 when I woke up
