Evidence is inconclusive for an ideal amount of total fat intake for people with diabetes;
therefore, goals should be individualized; fat quality appears to be far more important than quantity.
In people with type 2 diabetes, a Mediterranean-style, MUFA-rich [mono fats-rich] eating pattern may benefit
glycemic control and CVD risk factors and can therefore be recommended as an effective alternative to a lower-fat, higher-carbohydrate eating pattern.

I have to agree with Jack.
Sounds like classic carb cravings.

What do you usually eat for your evening meal?

Have a good, solid evening meal, without any carbs (green veg and berries are OK, but no root veg, bread, rice, potato, pasta etc.)

Then wait and see if the hunger hits as usual. If not, you have found the culprit.
Mind you, I think it takes me a few days for the cravings to disappear completely, so you might have to extend the experiment for several days...
